Zao’s second Solid State Records album Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest changed the game for the hardcore scene. Their follow-up, 1999′s Liberate Te Ex Inferis was even better. The sound was both darker and more cohesive. The album mixed in even more melody with the devastating aggression, creating a very complementary, artistic sound. With good reason this album is still considered one of Zao’s best, if not their best album.

It’s hard for me to choose between Blood and Fire and Liberate. Both albums completely destroy but Liberate was the album that really made me a Zao fan. Savannah, Autopsy, The Ghost Psalm, Skin Like Winter. Such an amazing album.
Same here. It was the album that got me into Zao, and to this day is still my favorite Zao release, although WBFBR is a close, close second. Ok, maybe it’s a toss-up.
